Small Engine Repair

The Small Engine Repair course is a 6-day program designed to provide participants with practical knowledge and hands-on skills essential for maintaining and repairing small engines commonly used in northern communities. The course focuses on understanding how small engines operate and how to troubleshoot and fix common issues with equipment such as two-stroke and four-stroke engines powering skidoos, ATV's, and boat motors.

Participants will learn core mechanical principles related to small engine function, including combustion, fuel and air systems, ignition, lubrication, and cooling systems. Emphasis will also be placed on routine maintenance practices, proper tool usage, and diagnosing mechanical problems efficiently.

Safety is a key component of this course. Participants will be trained to recognize potential hazards, follow proper safety procedures, and use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly to reduce risks when working with tools and machinery.

The course is highly practical, incorporating real-world scenarios and repairs that reflect the day-to-day challenges faced in local communities. Basic measurements, engine specifications, and diagnostic techniques will also be covered to ensure participants are confident in their skills.

Instruction is provided by a certified Red Seal mechanic with experience teaching in remote and northern communities. While theoretical knowledge forms the foundation, the course emphasizes hands-on learning, allowing participants to work directly with engines and equipment to build real, transferable skills.
